BOUNDARY WALL BRICKLAYING IN WALSALL
Kirk Yates Building was tasked to build a boundary wall around a corner plot in Walsall, which included complex radius swoop details to the front entrance. The existing nine inch wall did not include pillars and as a result, over time it had pushed outwards.
For this job we used the existing wall foundations (just widened them a touch). The main construction of the new boundary wall included the following:
- Blue engineering brick plinth.
- Stretcher bond facing brick detail with raked joints.
- Internal recessed low level brick lights.
- Pillars for added strength and stability.
- Double tile crease drip detail.
- Single bull nose and double bull nose blue engineering brick detail to the top.
The most complex and time consuming part for our bricklayers in Walsall was the four swooping and radius details (requested by the client) to the front driveway and dividing property return. A radius swoop wall is where the wall not only swoops but also curves at the same time. This type of design requires a high level of skill and bricklaying craftmanship.

SIDE BOUNDARY WALL

REAR WALL

FRONT DRIVEWAY WITH RADIUS SWOOPS

The wall included iron railings as it curved around the front boundary.
Old front boundary wall and property dividing return removed and dug down to use the existing foundations.
New front boundary wall progressing well, now designing and marking the swoop into the curve. It involves a high standard of brickwork craftmanship because the wall not only swoops but also curves inwards at the same time – hence the name radius swoop.
After working out the design of the swoop, the relevant bricks are then taken out of the wall, cut to size and reinstated.

Our final task for the Walsall bricklaying job was to rebuild the pillars to the front door entrance so that they matched the design of the new boundary walls.
